Our Mission

Our Mission is to help create a community responsible for animals, to give shelter to stray and
abandoned domestic animals, and find them loving, permanent homes. Further, we are
dedicated to improving the welfare of all companion animals in Crook County by promoting
spay/neutering and other expressions of responsible pet ownership.

The Humane Society of the Ochocos has come a long way since its founding in 1995 and we have many of
you to thank for that. Without community support we would not have progressed as far as we have toward
fulfilling our mission in "creating a community responsible for animals."

Over the last 12 years the Humane Society of the Ochocos (HSO) has grown from a dream in the eyes of
Gladys Logsdon and other local animal lovers to a stable organization that is building toward a strong
future. The HSO Board of Directors believes that an important part in building that strong future is the
continued growth of the membership program.

To learn more about the HSO membership campaign and to find out how you can become involved go to
our
Membership Page.
  • Dog Licensing

HSO operates as a satellite dog license issuing agency for Crook County.  No appointment
is necessary to license your dog, however a current rabies certificate must be provided. To
purchase a license pet owners need to bring proof of rabies AND proof of spay/neuter (if
this has been done). License fees are MUCH cheaper if the animal has been altered.

The Humane Society of the Ochocos provides caring cremation services for our
community's pets.  We offer private and communal cremation services so that your pet can
go to their final resting place in a manner that you are comfortable with.  We have the
latest modern equipment utilizing heat and flame to reduce their natural state to their
original elements.

  • Low-Income Adoption Assistance

Annette Heden of Prineville has generously funded an adoption assistance scholarship.
Aimed at senior citizens and others on a fixed income, this funding is available to fund 50%
of the adoption fee.  Call the shelter to learn more.
